Wyoming native and country artist Tris Munsick and his band, the Innocents, are set to perform at the University of Wyoming Arts & Sciences Auditorium on Friday, March 22.
Originally from Sheridan County, Tris Munsick and the Innocents have shared the stage with several big-name country bands, including Big and Rich, Cody Johnson, the Eli Young Band and many more. 7220 Entertainment Program Coordinator Alicia Perez shared that the event is one both her department and Munsick himself are excited for.
“He’s just a really awesome guy. We’ve been working with him directly, (and) he’s really down to earth and he’s super excited to come to UW, to kind of play at his home college,” Perez said.
“He’s a really cool dude, he’s a Wyoming boy through and through so he’s been great to work with.”
The university hosted Munsick’s brother, Ian, last year for Union Fest. While Perez noted the two are certainly each unique, those who attended the event last spring may be especially interested in the upcoming concert. In both instances, Perez added it’s always exciting to bring artists from Wyoming back to UW.
“That’s always really awesome, to have someone that’s a hometown boy, someone who’s from here, someone that the students can kind of recognize and relate to,” she said. “We encourage students to come out because he’s a Wyoming guy. It’s who we are, so we just want to recognize and highlight that.”
The event is open and free to the first 1,000 UW students who present a valid student ID, with tickets being available to the public for $35 plus a nominal processing fee. Perez noted that students are the organization’s priority, but it’s always special to include and give back to the Laramie community at any chance possible. Tickets can be purchased online at tix.com/ticket-sales/uwyo/6984/event/1363208.
“Our concerts are for students, so we try and put in an added benefit, added incentive, to participate in events,” Perez said. “But at the same time, we’re a small community, we love our Laramie community, so tickets are available to the general public.
Our Laramie community supports the university through and through, so we try and give back to our Laramie community in as many ways as we can.”
Doors at the A&S Auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m. with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Kellen Smith will open, followed by Munsick’s 90-minute set. Merchandise also will be available for purchase.
“We’re just really excited for a really cool night, we’re really excited to hear Tris sing, and so we invite everybody to come out and join in on that,” Perez said.
Chancey Williams, another Wyoming native and rising country music star regionally and nationally, added in a news release, “Tris Munsick is the real deal. He can write about and represent the cowboy culture, because he was born in it and lives it. Tris is an artist that is really finding his voice in the American West.”
