Holiday volunteers

A large platter of turkey almost obscures the “Merry Christmas” message on Jennifer Clark’s apron as she moves the cooked bird to a table to get boned and ready for serving on Christmas Day at Laramie Elks Lodge 582. The lodge members serve hundreds of free delivered and in-person meals. The turkey-cooking operation at the University of Wyoming Washakie Dining Center was quite an effort, with a couple of dozen volunteers, two kitchens and 36 turkeys. As volunteers worked, Christmas music played in the background and folks taking the turkey off the bones shared stories of Christmas traditions in their families. It was the 39th year the lodge hosted the community meal.
