The Albany Advisory Council on Trafficking recently announced an upcoming training session aimed at empowering the Laramie community in combating human trafficking.
The training will be from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, at Laramie Fire Department Station No. 3, located at 2374 W. Jefferson St. The event will feature distinguished consultant Melissa Kaiser, who brings a wealth of expertise in the field, according to a news release.
Human trafficking is a pervasive issue that requires a comprehensive community response. Recognizing the importance of collective action, AACT is committed to fostering collaboration among various stakeholders in Laramie. This training represents a significant opportunity for community members to come together, learn, and strategize effective responses to combat human trafficking.
Kaiser, known for her insightful perspectives and practical strategies in addressing human trafficking, will lead the training session. Drawing from her extensive background in the anti-trafficking movement, she aims to guide participants through a series of discussions and exercises.
The focus will be on enhancing community awareness and developing successful team responses to improve victim identification, investigations, and the accessibility of support services. Kaiser also will discuss personal mental health and wellness, as those who combat this crime carry a heavy burden and can experience vicarious trauma and other related issues.
“Human trafficking is a complex challenge in every community,” Kaiser said in the release. “However, with comprehensive education and a unified team approach, we can make significant strides! The goal of this training is to equip participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to create a safer environment. Through collective efforts, we can provide support to those affected by trafficking, ensuring more successful outcomes for victims.”
The training also will focus on the importance of community efforts in responding to human trafficking incidents, emphasizing the role of personal care and empowerment in supporting survivors and preventing further exploitation. Participants will gain practical skills and insights that can be applied in various community settings.
“We believe that no single agency or entity can effectively address human trafficking alone,” Justin Scott, coordinator at AACT, said in the release. “By bringing together diverse perspectives and resources, we can develop more holistic approaches to combating this crime. This training underscores our commitment to collaborative action and underscores the critical role of community engagement.”
The training is open to all community members, including law enforcement personnel, healthcare professionals, educators, social service providers, and concerned citizens. Attendees are encouraged to register now to secure a spot.
