Keep a cold frame come winter

Cold frames are small greenhouse-like structures that enable you to grow winter salad greens and spring seedlings. They can be constructed from recycled lumber and windows. Walls can even be made from old hay bales set in a rectangle. Cold frames should have the windows slightly tilted to the south and may need to be propped open for cooling on sunny days, or you can install an automated opener.
