Boomerang seeks information about local clubs and service organizations
For the second year in a row, the Laramie Boomerang is working to connect local residents with information about the large number of clubs and service organizations in Albany County.
Our “Community Connections” special publication is one of many ways we believe we live into our motto, “Your Connection — Your Community.” We were extremely pleased with the response we had in its first year, but for it to be even bigger and more helpful this year, we need your participation.
For those organizations that submitted information last year, we need you to review it at wyomingnews.com/community/community_connections and send us any changes via email to news@wyomingnews.com, subject line "Community Connections."
If you didn’t participate last year, we invite you or someone from your group to go online to wyomingnews.com/community-connections and fill out the short form you will find there. That information will be included in our May 18 publication, as well as on the updated online page at wyomingnews.com/laramieboomerang/.
Are you part of a monthly quilting circle, trap shooting club or gaming group? Let us help you recruit new members. Are you a member of Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Elks, etc.? We want to help grow your membership, too. Part of a church, synagogue, mosque or other religious organization that provides community service? We want to help you spread the word about your work.
This is a free service, but we need you to act soon. The deadline for getting your group’s information to us is Wednesday, April 17. And please, use the online form so we get all of the details we need to provide consistent, useful listings for residents of Albany County, whether they’re new or have lived here all their lives.
Thanks in advance for once again helping us connect you with your community.

Department of Corrections to close aquaculture program in Lusk
CHEYENNE — The Wyoming Department of Corrections will be closing the aquaculture program at the Wyoming Women’s Center in Lusk by the end of 2024, according to a news release.
The program received its first fish when it opened in 2007. Since opening, the program has raised a number of species of fish. Most recently, the program grew tilapia and catfish for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
Over the past several years, consistent vacancies in the program have made staffing the program as well as marketing the product difficult, the release said. The department said it will expand other vocational and employment opportunities for inmates.
