Dear Editor,

While I applaud your excellent coverage of the 4A high school state boys swimming and diving championship, I have to wonder why the Laramie High School girls 4A swimming and diving championship did not receive the same press coverage. Both meets were virtually the same. The win came down to the last relay, and the girls had an undefeated season, broke 2 state records, set 6 school records, and achieved 4 All-American considerations plus a Junior Nationals qualifier.

The boys set one state record and two school records with two All-America consideration times, athlete of the meet, and the win came down to the last relay. The boys received a well-deserved three full pages of coverage, including an insert, while the girls, who were just as deserving, were the bottom two inches of the sport section with the rest of the article on the second page.

Both the high school boys’ cross-country and tennis team championships were top 10 sports stories for 2017, while the girls swim team championship was slighted. The Lady Plainsmen girls swimming and diving championship was honorable mention at number 13. Had the girls received the same press coverage as the boys they probably would have been a top 10 sports story. I agree high school championships are top 10 sports stories however; they should include all championships, not just boys’ sports.
