(StatePoint) While many people are willing to pay a fortune on skin care, there are many different ways to achieve a healthy complexion on any budget. Here are some top tips from savvy lifestyle experts.
Treat Skin Right All Day
“I make sure I’m doing the very best for my skin all day long,” says blogger Chris Freytag of Get Healthy U. “I believe it’s your daily habits that are really important.”
Freytag cites staying hydrated as one of the best things you can do for your skin, starting her day with a big glass of lemon water. She also recommends a good workout, as sweat is a natural way to detoxify your skin. After workouts, just remember to wash your face. One fast and easy way to make sure you can clean up in a pinch is by carrying cleansing wipes with you.
Freytag also lists a healthy diet and good shut eye as keys to healthy glowing skin. Lastly, she believes that what’s most important about your skin care products is that they work, not that they come with a flashy label.
“I’m willing to spend money on a good pair of shoes or a fabulous bottle of wine, but one area I have learned I don’t need to spend a lot of money is skin care,” says Freytag. “After years of trying expensive creams and lotions that weren’t making any personal differences for me, I settled on a few quality products that are cost-friendly and are working for my skin.”
Lifestyle blogger Janise Burrafato of Mama in Heels, says that when time and money are limited, it’s helpful to approach skin care the same way you do your basic wardrobe essentials.
“Just like the perfect Little Black Dress, blazer, and pumps, having the basics means being able to put yourself together quickly and easily. The same goes for skin care,” she says.
Burrafato says the two basic skin care habits that she dutifully follows is removing her makeup every single night and applying a mask at least once a week. To take care of the first, Burrafato uses the Studio 35 Sensitive Skin Wipes found at Walgreens and Duane Reade, which are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free wipes that are dermatologist-tested to remove dirt and makeup without irritation. “They are just as high-quality as the more premium brands, but a fraction of the price,” she says.
She applies the same principle to her masks, turning to the Studio 35 facial mask line-up, which includes a detoxifying black charcoal mask, a facial brightening sheet mask, a detoxifying honey peel-off mask and an anti-aging mask formulated with argan oil.
Great skin care doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Many habits that promote healthy looking skin – such as a great night’s sleep -- are entirely free, and any products that you do need to maintain clean, healthy skin, many experts say can be found easily and affordably.
