The anatomy of a guitar

Rock River student Kolton Leslie submerges his primered guitar body Tuesday into a trash bin filled with water and topped with swirled paints during Anthony McKittrick’s science class. The 18- week guitar building program was taught to Albany County School District No. 1 faculty in the summer as a STEM program that could be used in the classroom, teaching students the engineering aspects of building their own guitars from scratch. Kolton said he thought guitar building was a really good program, “opening a broader spectrum to engineering,” by mixing art with science. McKittrick hopes to shorten the program by two weeks in order to give his students time to learn the basics of playing their new guitars.
