Musical theater students at Laramie High School are rehearsing the classes’ next play, “The Addams Family,” in preparation for show dates in November, LHS Theater Program Director Mike Hancey said.
The show is based on a Broadway performance using Addams Family characters in a new story. Hancey said musical theater students have been rehearsing this play since the beginning of the school year.
“It is a fun show, the students have just loved working on it and they have worked really hard and they are continuing to work hard,” Hancey said. “I have never had a group of students work harder on a show then they have on this show, they seem to be dedicated from day one and they have really given it there all.”
“The Addams Family” is different from other shows the school has put on before because large groups of people get stage time and around 80 students will sing and dance during the show, he said.
“In the past, we have just had the main cast and the chorus, here we’ve got the main cast (and several groups) that come and do different parts of the show,” Hancey said. “The students have to think ahead to what is next and who is on stage at this point and what scenes and sets have to be on stage.”
Hazel Homer-Wambeam, who plays Morticia Addams, said she enjoys how this show has more singing and dancing than other shows they have done previously. She said she is also looking forward to seeing all the costumes and prosthetics for characters such as the grandmother and Uncle Fester.
“I don’t think I’ve ever done this much dancing in one of these plays before,” Homer-Wambeam said. “The costumes and make-up are going to be amazing and there is going to be a lot of prosthetics … it is going to be very fun to watch.”
