The quiet of early morning hours was disrupted by a vehicle fire that occurred Monday on Laramie’s west side.
The Laramie Fire Department responded to a fire just after 3:30 a.m. at 363 W. Garfield St. after receiving a 911 call.
Flames coming from the vehicle’s interior stretched up above cable TV lines from a nearby utility pole in an alley just north of Garfield Street, according to a LFD news release.
Arriving within seven minutes of the call, the LFD reported they were able to extinguish the fire within 11 minutes of arriving on the scene.
The cause of the fire at this point is unclear, said LFD Company Officer Gus Stonum. There are no eyewitnesses, but Stonum said “there was something that happened prior to the fire.”
Lt. Gwen Smith of the Laramie Police Department said there was an arrest made at the residence on a warrant unrelated to the fire.
Laramie resident Whitney Kopp responded to a post on the Facebook group Laramie Classified, saying it was her car that caught fire.
“My car went up in flames somehow last night,” Kopp posted on the social media website just before 10 a.m. Monday. “I woke up and it was completely engulfed in giant flames and explosions. There’s no one hurt, nobody was in it. I have no idea what happened yet. They are still out there investigating.”
Stonum confirmed Kopp was the owner of the vehicle.
