Pond hockey Carol Ryczek/For the Laramie Boomerang Feb 5, 2023 Feb 5, 2023 Updated Mar 11, 2024 Comments Facebook Twitter WhatsApp SMS Email Print Copy article link Save With a weather advisory, falling snow and a wind chill warning, most parks in Laramie were rather quiet on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023. But the snow didn’t stop a group of local residents who have a passion for pond hockey. The friends play two or three times a week at LaBonte Park, over the small body of water they call the “Stink Rink.” The game is played 3-on-3. The goals are made from broken pallets, the stands are snowbanks and the Zamboni is a crew of both teams with shovels. Hockey experience ranges from three months to 9 years, and according to one player, “The less experience, the better.” The hockey action, however, is fast as Ethan Vertini moves the puck the distance of the rink.
