From walking bananas to tiny tigers and larger-than life spiders, a variety of child-sized beasts and monsters made their way downtown, all with one thing in mind: getting the biggest load of candy possible.
This year’s downtown trick or treat brought Laramie residents and their children into local businesses to look for their favorite treats.
While four-year-old Thomas McCoy didn’t find anyone handing out “popsicle sticks,” which he said were his favorite candy, he did make out with a pretty good haul.
“This is just a nice opportunity to get out with the family,” Thomas’ father Dan McCoy said. “It’s safe, it’s easy and it’s a lot of fun because we get to see a lot of other families and people we know.”
With so many businesses close together, McCoy added that the downtown trick or treat is especially convenient for families with young children.
“It’s all located within a few blocks, so you don’t have to go all over the place,” McCoy said. “It’s a little hard sometimes at night when you’re at 7,200 feet to go trick or treating with the little guys, especially because it gets so cold out. Laramie has a pretty consistent history of getting snow on Halloween, too.”
But it wasn’t just Laramie families and children who get into the Halloween spirit at the downtown trick or treat. Kristen Zebre was decked out in full soccer-player garb while working as the cashier at the Curiosity Shoppe, who also hosted a drawing for this year’s trick or treaters.
“We’ve done (the downtown trick or treat) every year since the new owner bought the store for about four years now,” Zebre said. “This year we did a special drawing where people got to win some Webkinz and Halloween prizes. We had a lot of kids come back for the drawing so we gave them all prizes.”
